Ladera Ranch was developed by Del E. Webb Corp., beginning in 1989, and celebrated its grand opening in 1992. The area is mainly residential, with some commercial development at the northeast corner of El Camino Real and Las Flores.

The San Clemente Canyon/Ladera Ranch Little League Baseball team won the 2004 Little League World Series over teams from Japan, Canada and Taiwan.
