The New Orleans Fairgrounds is a fairground located in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. It is composed of multiple individual properties and covers over 100 acres. The fairgrounds hosts various events including the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Mardi Gras World facility which houses year-round Mardi Gras floats. The Fairgrounds is located approximately 8 miles north of Downtown New Orleans on Airline Highway in Mid-City and accessible via Interstate 10.
Fairgrounds were first constructed in the 1840s for New Orleans’ annual agricultural fairs. The city’s first permanent fairgrounds were built in 1852, and the site has been used for events such as the World Cotton Centennial, Louisiana Purchase Exposition, and the New Orleans World’s Fair.
The current State Fairgrounds site covers about 162 acres and includes New Orleans Fairground Arena, a 1,500-seat facility that hosts sporting events, concerts, and other events; a 4-H Exhibit Hall; an exhibition hall that houses traveling exhibits; and a 500-space parking lot.
